Saratoga Little League takes 'positive' step with Alliance
By Dick Sparrer
In an effort to provide youngsters with a positive sports experience, the Saratoga Little League has established a one-year partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance.

The Stanford-based non-profit organization "works with coaches, organizational leaders and parents to more effectively teach young athletes not only how to win, but also how to learn about teamwork, discipline, respect and goal-setting through their sports experience."

The league and PCA will hold three workshops for coaches and others involved in the Saratoga Little League prior to the start of the 2005 season. For more information on the local workshops, contact Mario Ramirez at 408.867.5039 or mramirez@saratogall.org, or visit the Saratoga Little League website at www.saratogall.org.

The league has also announced its online registration program that runs through midnight on Nov. 7 for players ages 512 playing in the T-ball through major divisions. The cost per player is $190 for T-ball and $215 for all other divisions ($170 for each additional player from the same family). Register and pay online at the league's website.

While registering players, all families must also volunteer for a job within the league or pay the $250 "opt out" fee.

Verification nights will be held on Nov. 9 and 10, 79 p.m. each night, in the cafeteria at Argonaut School. Players must provide a birth certificate, proof of residency (PG&E bill or equivalent) and the printed version from on-line registration. Parents must also provide a copy of and an original driver's license.

For more information, visit the website or call the league hotline at 408.794.0279.
