Ruth Rainie Condit
Ruth Rainie Condit, 81, died at home on Oct. 22.
Born in Iowa, Ruth was interested in art from an early age. She first studied art and exhibited her work at the Abbott School of Fine Art in Washington, D.C., before moving to California, where she worked on Tweety Bird and other well-known cartoons for Columbia Pictures Screen Gems Studio. She attended several colleges, including San Francisco State University, San José State University and Stanford University.
Condit taught art classes for all ages in private schools, at Villa Montalvo and at her studio workshop in Saratoga, for more than 30 years. An award-winning artist, she exhibited regularly with the Saratoga Contemporary Artists, Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Association, Los Gatos Art League and Museum, the Triton Museum and the San Jose Art League's Center for Visual Arts. She was an active member of the Santa Clara County Pen Women's Association.
Condit is survived by her husband of 25 years, Maurice Condit; her brother and his wife, Roland and Kaaren Brummer; her sister and her husband Ramona and George Zediker; her sisters Rosena Jonas and Alice Armstrong; her daughters and sons-in-law, Jo and George Rodgers of Fremont and Christine and Thomas Balch of Rancho Palos Verdes; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelly Rainie of Sunnyvale; her granddaughters and their husbands, Heather and Robert McCaslin of Spokane, Heidi and Dave Saifi of San Jose, and Hailey and Mark Kerzich of Sonora; her granddaughter Andrea Balch of Los Angeles; her grandson Robert Balch of Los Angeles; and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Shenae, Alexandra, Christine, Anne, Kiana, Brian, Caitlin and Luke. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathryn.
