Falcons roll to win over Sunnyvale
By Dick Sparrer
Yardage didn't come easy for the West Valley Falcons in a first-round Pop Warner junior midget football playoff game against the Sunnyvale Rockets.

But things were even tougher for the Rockets.

The high-powered West Valley offense was held to just 218 yards against a solid Sunnyvale defense. But the Rockets could manage only 67 yards against the solid defensive wall put up by the Falcons.

Sunnyvale entered the game with a fine 7-1 record for the year, but after the Falcons ran up 22 points in the first half, the Rockets went home with their season complete at 7-2.

The Falcons scored the first three times they touched the football in the game. Kyle Miller, who completed 9 of 15 passes for 87 yards, ran for two touchdowns and Josh Ajlouni ran for another to help West Valley build up the early lead. Tommy Silvas booted a pair of two-point conversions.

Colin Chapman pulled in three passes for 34 yards and Geo Shannon had a couple of catches for 23 yards to lead the receiving corps in the win. Craig Zeiter, Will Boring, Silvas, Brandon Farley and Will Sparks also had receptions. Sparks led the winners on the ground with 10 carries for 46 yards.

But defense was really the name of the game for the Falcons. Not only did West Valley give up just 67 yards to the Rockets, the locals never let Sunnyvale penetrate the 30-yard line.

Sparks, Ross Kundtz, Jake Betcher, Daniel Ajlouni, Joey Vizzuzi, John Batinich, Alex Asturias and Brandon Webster were defensive leaders for the Falcons. Sparks, Shannon and Betcher each recovered fumbles.
