Maxine N. Edmonds

Maxine Natalie Edmonds, 93, died on Dec. 8.

Edmonds was born in Valpraiso, Ind. She married Nelson O. Edmonds and the couple had four children. During their 57 years of marriage, Edmonds and her husband owned and managed several hardware stores and Saratoga Hardware on Big Basin Way from 1964 to 1974. As a member of the Saratoga Historical Society and the Republican Women's Club, Edmonds enjoyed civic involvement. She was an avid golfer after her retirement, and enjoyed many trips abroad with her husband and family. Edmonds lived in Saratoga until 1998, when she moved to San Rafael to be closer to her family.

Edmonds was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her three surviving children, John N. Edmonds of Louisville, Ky.; Patricia Rand of Modesto; and Liz Larsen of Tiburon; as well as 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Robert G. Fricke

Robert Gustave Fricke, 71, died Dec. 13.

Fricke was a graduate of UC-Berkeley. He taught history for 43 years at the community college level. He was a member of the first faculty of West Valley College in 1964, and taught there until his retirement in 2003.

Fricke is survived by his son Richard Fricke of Modesto, and his nephews Donald and Larry Fricke.

A celebration of his life was held on Dec. 19 at his friend Michael Leary's home in San Jose. Arrangements were handled by Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos.
