A group of Saratoga High School students has been hard at work weaving some tangled webs as of late.
No, it's not an odd science experiment, it's the drama department's choice for it's latest play, "Spider's Web," written by the old-school mystery novelist Agatha Christie. The production is an honors project for senior Robby Sumner, who is the play's director, with help from junior Julia Koe, the assistant director, and some faculty guidance, says Sumner.
"It's a murder mystery. It takes place in 1950s England. The setting revolves around a quiet house in the country, where a diplomat lives with his wife. She's not used to the life of a diplomat's wife, so she gets bored," Sumner says. "One night, in the midst of entertaining house guests, she finds a dead body, the new husband of her husband's ex-wife. Although they try to dispose of the body as quickly as they can, so as not to damage her husband's career, the police show up on an anonymous tip. The mystery is to find out not only who killed him, but who tipped off the police."
Sumner says he thinks audiences will get a real kick out of the production.
"It's really fun. There's a secret passageway, a secret drawer in a desk, invisible ink ... it's just got everything in my book."
Performances of "Spider's Web" are Jan. 21, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 22 and 30 at 1 p.m. in the little theater at Saratoga High School, located at 20300 Herriman Ave. Ticket prices are $7 for students and $9 for adults. Call the school at 408.867.3411 for more information.
