Aileen G. Prince

Aileen Gardiner Prince, 81, formerly of both Los Gatos and Saratoga, died on Jan. 26.

Prince was born in North Bend, Wash. to Regina "Marie" Maria Reynolds and William "Pudge" Kenneth Gardiner. Her sister, Patricia Witt of San Rafael, was born two years later. Aileen spent her childhood in rural Washington surrounded by an extended family. She loved to climb trees and learned to swim in the Snoqualmie River. She was always proud to say she had climbed Mt. Si four times--a rigorous, all-day hike. During the 1930s, the Gardiner family moved to Bellingham, Wash. where she graduated from Western Washington Teacher's College. She played the flute in the orchestra and met her husband, Dr. Edward Prince, a saxophone player.

In 1961, the Princes settled in San Jose, where Dr. Prince established his medical practice. They relocated to Saratoga in 1968. During those years, she formed many lifelong friendships and helped establish a bridge club that has continued for more than 40 years. Prince had many artistic talents, including creating jewelry, needlepoint, gourmet cooking and gardening. Her passion for growing a garden extended well into her 70s, when she became a certified Master Gardener. She was also an active member of the Valle Monte League for more than 30 years.

In the 1980s, she settled in Los Gatos where she enjoyed skiing, tennis and travel with her companion, Warren Brown, a businessman and inventor.

Prince is survived by her sons Michael, Roger, and David Prince; her daughter Lisa Prince Newman; her grandchildren Chris, Matt and Rebecca Prince, and Riley, Jack, Julian and Maria Newman; and one great-grandchild, Teressa Prince.

A memorial service was held on Feb. 6 at the Saratoga Federated Church.

Margaret W. Roberts

Margaret Wilson Roberts, 82, a longtime resident of Saratoga, died Jan. 27.

Roberts was born in Old Fort, N.C., and was a resident of Saratoga since 1956. She enjoyed memberships in the West Valley Women's Club, the Saratoga Foothill Club and the Saratoga Federated Church, where she had many friends.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Roberts; her son Thomas Roberts III and his wife Ines of Morgan Hill; her daughter Margaret Roberts Ansel and her husband Craig of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son James Roberts and his wife Karen of San Jose; and her grandchildren Brian Roberts, Michelle Roberts, Steven Roberts, Jonathan Roberts, Douglas Ansel, Michael Ansel, and Robert Ansel.

Services were held on Feb. 3 at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army.

Dorothy Ann Housman

Dorothy Ann Housman, 73, formerly of Saratoga, died Jan. 21.

Housman was born in White Plains, N.Y., to Leonard and Margaret Wood. She lived on Argonne Drive in Saratoga from 1965 to 1972, and then lived in San Jose. Housman was a Christian and worked as a secretary. When she retired, she moved to Carson City in 1987.

Housman is survived by her husband Bennett Housman Jr. of Carson City; her daughter Kim Elleen Housman of Carson City; her daughter and son-in-law Wendy Housman-Sharpless and Michael Edward Sharpless of Temecula; her son Mark Bennett Housman of Maui; her sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Larry Kanter of Stuarte, Fla.; her nephew Gary Kanter of Gainesville, Fla.; and her grandchildren Katherine Ann Sharpless and Kellie Noelle Sharpless of Temecula.

A memorial service will be held on March 5 at the Carson Valley Inn Chapel in Minden, Nev. Arrangements are being handled by FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory in Carson City. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Foundation.
