Mary M. Malatesta
Mary Marra Malatesta, 97, died Feb. 26.
Malatesta was a resident of San Jose. She owned and operated Malatesta's Smart Fashions in Los Gatos, in The Pruneyard in Campbell and on Big Basin Way in Saratoga, as well as the Hawaiian Shop in Saratoga. She also founded and chartered Los Gatos Emblem Club No. 229 in 1953.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Malatesta, who was the founder and charter of Los Gatos Elks Lodge No. 1857. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Martino, her brother, Benjamin Marra Sr., and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on March 2 at Los Gatos Memorial Park Chapel. Donations can be made in her name to the American Heart Association.
Lillian L. Wang
Dr. Lillian L. Wang of Saratoga, 84, died March 17 after a brief illness.
Wang was born near Suzhou, China. She graduated from the National College of Pharmacy in China. She emigrated to the United States in 1947. She graduated with a master's degree in science from Washington State College of Pharmacology, and she obtained her doctorate at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She taught pharmacy at the Southern College of Pharmacy at Mercer University in Atlanta and later worked at Dow Chemical in its Indianapolis pharmaceutical division.
Wang resided in Saratoga. She is survived by her son, Paul J. Wang, a professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and her two grandchildren, Margaret and Catherine Wang.
Memorial services were held on March 22 at the Roller, Hapgood and Tunney Funeral Home in Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Heart Rhythm Foundation, which can be contacted at 209.464.3404, or the Saratoga Presbyterian Church Youth Fund.
