Joseph V. Ulrich, 98, a 50-year resident of Saratoga, died May 24.

Ulrich was born in Morris, Minn. He served in the Army and Air Force for 30 years, retiring in 1955 as a colonel. He worked in real estate and as a radio dispatcher for Santa Clara County after moving to Saratoga.

Ulrich was an avid world traveler and loved to play bingo.

He is survived by his daughter Joan and her husband James Simpson of Stockton; two grandsons, Kenneth and his wife Laura Simpson of Walnut Creek and Kevin and his wife Leslie Simpson of Sacramento; and two granddaughters, Jordan and Kyra Simpson of Walnut Creek.

He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, where his wife, Anne Ulrich, and his son, Kenneth Stuart Ulrich, are buried.
