Saratoga, Quito each 4-0 in tourney

The 8-year-olds from the Saratoga and Quito Little Leagues may have played in the same pool in the District 12 all-star tournament, but they never faced each other.

They still could, though. And if they do, they'll be battling for a district championship.

Saratoga and Quito each posted 4-0 records in pool play to advance to the district semifinals. Saratoga was to face Lincoln Glen on Monday while Quito battled Almaden North. The winners of the two games will play for the pennant on June 29, 5:30 p.m., at the Branham Hills Little League field (on Ross Avenue near Branham).

Saratoga's closest game in pool play was a 9-6 win over San Jose American. The others were all decided by 10 runs or more. Saratoga pounded Los Gatos National 14-4, whipped Los Gatos American 12-2 and blasted Union 18-7.

Making up the 8-year-old Saratoga all-star team are Philip Badrov, Cameron Borch, Andrew Chen, Justin Douglass, Andrew Ferguson, Adrian Fong (currently sidelined with a broken finger), Jeremy Goldman, Alex Hansen, Andrew Harter, Kial Kaiser, Jonathan Keyes, Blair Parker, Tyler Plesse, Teddy Rothschild and Derek Sun. The manager is Brent Plesse and the coaches are Danny Fong, Bob Hansen and Andrew Harter.

Quito, meanwhile, clobbered Los Gatos National 28-6, blanked Union 10-0, edged San Jose American 4-3 and ripped Los Gatos American 15-1 in pool play.

Neither Saratoga nor Quito fared as well in the 9-year-old tourney. Saratoga split in four games and Quito won just one of four.

Saratoga shut out Branham Hills 15-0 and topped Los Gatos American 14-6, but the locals lost 9-3 to both Lincoln Glen and Union.

Playing for the 9-year-old all-star team are Thomas Alexander, Davis Berryhill, Jerry Bittner, Gino Caloiaro, Andrew Carter, Alex Cox, Grant Faylor, Christian Galvin, Nikhil Goel, Drew Kriens, Clark Rothenberg, Bobby Vithanage and Jonathan Walters. Sheldon Carter is the team's manager and Jay Berryhill and John Faylor are his coaches.

Quito pulled out a 7-6 win over San Jose American, but lost 10-4 to Cambrian Park, 7-6 to Almaden South and 8-2 to Almaden North.
