Gardanier, competing for the last time in the 11-and-under girls age group, placed seventh in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard competitions. Her opponents were among the top 30 divers in her age group from the western United States.

Gardanier, a sixth-grader at Redwood Middle School, typically practices several times a week under the tutelage of coach Ryan Wallace at the Santa Clara Diving Club. However, because of a knee injury suffered from a fall at school, Gardanier did not practice during the week leading up to the Spring West Nationals.

Gardanier qualified for the event by winning the one-meter and three-meter events at the Junior Spring Region 10 championships in Provo, Utah.
