Robert M. Nantz

Robert M. Nantz, 90, died Aug. 9.

Nantz was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. For many years he lived in the mountains near Los Gatos, where he built a home for his family. In 1978 he retired to Hammersley Inlet near Shelton, Wash., to enjoy the water and scenery. He liked reading, crossword puzzles and driving his jeeps off the beaten path.

Nantz is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Nantz; son John and daughter-in-law Ingrid Nantz; daughter Sheryl and son-in-law Per Nilsen; daughter Susan Bird; sister Mary Helen McEwen of Fort Wayne; brother Melvin and sister-in-law Mary Ann Linberg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family plans a private memorial at his home in Hammersley Inlet.

Russell B. Hanson

Russell Buford Hanson Sr., 80, formerly of Los Gatos, died Aug. 30.

Hanson was born in Los Gatos to Edward and Eva Hanson. After graduating from Los Gatos High School, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 376th Bomber Group in World War II with his brother Dick. He served as the radio operator in B-24s over Italy.

Hanson married Mary C. Zillner on Aug. 20, 1945. He worked for Western Telephone Company in California until moving to Charleston, Ore., in 1966. He and Mary were partners in the Basin Café, Tackle Shop and Tavern in Charleston.

Mary died in 1985. He later married Jeanne Cockrell, who also predeceased him.

Hanson is survived by a son, Russell Hanson of Prineville; brother, Paul Hanson of Dayville, Ore.; sisters, Pat Smith of St. George, Utah and Diane Frydenger of Paines Creek, Calif.; granddaughter, Heather Morley of Aloha, Ore.; and great-grandson Logan Morley of Aloha, Ore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Pioneer Memorial Hospice.
