Former Saratoga Elementary School teacher's aide Roger Phillip Lange, 41, was charged with 12 counts of child molestation last month after being arrested in Las Vegas, Nev. He was extradited to California and is now facing trial in Santa Clara County.
Lange was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on Aug. 13. He did not post bail, which is currently set at $500,000. Deputy District Attorney Steve Fein said the amount is typical for this kind of case.
A now 19-year-old male reported being molested in 1997 by a family acquaintance identified as Lange. Lange was employed at Saratoga Elementary School from Aug. 12, 1996, to June 14, 1998.
He moved to Las Vegas around the time of the alleged assault. In 1999, he was arrested in Las Vegas for lewdness with a minor and is a sexual registrant in Nevada.
"Our concern obviously, because he was teacher's aide, is if there were more victims," San Jose police detective Russ Chubon said. "If there were more victims I would hope they would contact me."
The San Jose Police Department urges anyone with additional information on the case to contact detective Chubon or Sgt. John Robb at the Sexual Assault Investigation Unit at 408.277.4102. Those who wish to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers Program at 408.947.7867.
