Old-fashioned dixieland jazz funeral part of a fundraiser
By Kaustuv Basu
The Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, is organizing a fundraiser on Oct. 30 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina and other disasters in the gulf states. The fundraiser begins with an old-fashioned Dixieland jazz funeral followed by a jambalaya dinner and concert.

"We have invested a lot of energy in helping victims of the hurricane," said Jack Mallory, a church member. "This event is going to be a solemn celebration and a reenactment of a New Orleans tradition."

The Dixieland funeral includes a horse-drawn carriage, and a walk along Oak Street to Madronia Cemetery. After a small service at the cemetery, the procession will return to the church. Festive New Orleans-style memorial music will be played on the way back, followed by a jambalaya dinner and a Dixieland concert. The program begins at 1 p.m. For more information, call Dale Walter at 408.644.9369.
