Two times the Saratoga girls soccer players found themselves behind in tough Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division games last week, and both times they battled back with goals.
But neither one of the comebacks resulted in a victory for the Falcons, who finished the week with a loss and a tie to slip to 1-4-1 in the division and to 7-5-1 for the year.
Saratoga opened the week with a tough 2-1 loss to Homestead, then fought back to tie Mountain View 2-2 two days later.
Senior Elise Schwartz, a co-captain with senior defenders Sarah Inman and Katherine Bertelsen, scored a first-half goal off an assist from sophomore midfielder Nicole Sabes, but the Falcons were trailing the Spartans 2-1 at the half.
Sabes came back in the second half, though, to score off an assist from freshman midfielder Sophie Sequeira to tie the game.
The Falcons didn't have that kind of success against the Mustangs. Saratoga fell back 2-0 after a half, but could answer with just one goal in the second half. Junior midfielder Laura Barrett scored off a Sequeira assist, but the Falcons came up a goal short against Homestead.
Saratoga will try to get back on the winning track this week. The Falcons will visit Los Gatos on Jan. 18, 3:30 p.m. to start the second half of the league season before playing host to Palo Alto on Saturday at 1 p.m. Saratoga hits the road to visit Monta Vista on Jan. 24, 3:30 p.m.
Saratoga's only win in the first half of the league season was a 2-0 victory over Gunn.
