Jason Mighdoll and Elise Schwartz are both senior forwards for Saratoga soccer teams this winter.
But they had even more in common than that for their respective teams last week--they each posted two-goal games to lead the Saratoga boys and girls to identical 3-1 victories.
Mighdoll knocked in one goal unassisted and scored another off an assist from senior forward Neema Haghshenas to lead the Saratoga boys to a 3-1 win over Lynbrook in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
Haghshenas, who along with senior midfielder Kai Lo and junior defender Julien Cromer serves as a Saratoga co-captain, also scored a goal for the Falcons off a Cameron Bunker assist.
The win helped Saratoga nose over the .500 mark in league play, but the Falcons slipped back to an even record after a tough 1-0 loss to Fremont later in the week. Saratoga is now 4-4-2 in the division and 5-8-2 for the year.
Schwartz, like Mighdoll, single-handedly outscored the opposition when she knocked in two penalty kicks to lead the Falcons to a 3-1 win over Gunn in De Anza Division play. Senior defender Katherine Bertelsen scored off a Julie Seago assist to round out the Saratoga scoring in the win.
Saratoga improved to 3-6-1 in the division and to 9-7-1 for the year with the win over the Titans.
The Falcons had opened the week with a 3-2 win over Palo Alto. Freshman Sophie Sequeira had a goal and an assist in the win and Bertelsen and Lisa Brenner also scored goals. Aleks Aleksic had an assist.
Saratoga lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Monta Vista despite a second-half goal by Sequeira off a Schwartz assist.
