Falcons nail back-to-back league soccer wins
By Dick Sparrer
Timing is everything, and the Saratoga boys soccer team certainly picked the right time to slap a couple of victories back-to-back.

It was the final week of the regular season for the Falcons in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, and Saratoga two-timed Los Altos and Milpitas to finish league play with a 6-4-2 record. The Falcons are 7-8-2 overall.

Coach Brett Rodriguez's Falcons opened the week with a tight 3-2 win over Los Altos, then blanked Milpitas 3-0.

Sophomore Kris Clark knocked in two goals and senior Ken Douglas had a goal and an assist to lead the Falcons past the Trojans. Junior Eric Yee had the assist on Douglas' goal.

Seniors Kai Lo and Neema Haghshenas, who are co-captains with junior Julien Cromer, were playing their final league game against Milpitas, as were seniors Douglas, John Gragnola, Lawrence Nguyen, Jason Mighdoll, Greg Jones and Gibran Chaudhry.

Coach David Blutrich's girls team wrapped up the league season last week, dropping a couple of decisions to Mountain View and Homestead. The Falcons finished the regular season with a 3-8-1 record in the De Anza Division and a 9-9-1 mark overall.

Freshman midfielder Sophie Sequeira knocked in a second-half goal off an assist from senior defender Joanna Tung. But that goal only matched a second-half goal by the Spartans, and they had already jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The Falcons lost 3-0 to the Mustangs earlier in the week.

Senior co-captains Sarah Inman, Elise Schwartz and Katherine Bertelsen were all playing their final league game against Mountain View. It was also the end of the road in league action for seniors Jennifer New and Tung.
