A new Italian-style home and two signs were unanimously approved by the Saratoga Planning Commission on Feb. 9.
Architect Gary Kohlsaat described the plans for a 6,003-square-foot, multi-story home with a 996-square-foot basement at 16233 Cuvilly Way. The home is being built by Maggetti Construction Inc. on a vacant 44,039-square-foot lot in the Chateaux de Notre Dame subdivision. Planning commissioners had no objections to the home, commenting on the "loveliness" of the design.
Associate planner Lata Vasudevan said the land had been purchased by the Sobrato Construction Corp. from the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. A convent and a Montessori school had once been on the site. New homes are now beginning to go up in the 11-lot development, with five lots having undergone the review process.
Planning commissioner Jill Hunter asked Kohlsaat if "green" technology was being incorporated into the design. Kohlsaat said no and that the photovoltaic cells currently being discussed in Sacramento by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would not blend well aesthetically with the neighborhood. He said the home design did incorporate tiled floors that efficiently absorbed sunlight, which warmed rooms.
With nobody coming forward at public hearings, the planning commission approved the design 6-0.
Subsequent agenda items involved the placement of new signs at entrances to the Parker Ranch subdivision. The Parker Ranch Homeowners Association wants to replace an older wooden sign at 12045 Parker Ranch Road with a brick-and-stone veneer sign and place an identical sign at 12467 Parker Ranch Road.
Both signs are about 23 square feet in area and measure 4 feet, 4 inches in height. "Parker Ranch" will be spelled out on the signs in 8-inch-tall brass letters.
The planning commission saw no reason to deny the placement of the signs. With the three items on the agenda approved, the planning commission called it a night.
Commissioner Mike Uhl was absent.
