Josephine Steinbach

Josephine "Josie" Steinbach of Saratoga, 65, died Feb. 23 of lung cancer.

Steinbach was born in Sheridan, Wyo., and graduated from Montana State University with a bachelor's degree in home economics. She taught at Samuel Ayer and Milpitas high schools for 33 years.

She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Sizzling Seniors dance aerobics, walking and dollmaking. She was a skilled seamstress and clothing designer who enjoyed making her own doll costumes and clothes, and donated hundreds of dolls to the children at Stanford Children's Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Don Steinbach; her children, Loretta Rodriguez and Greg Steinbach; her grandchildren, Kyle and Hannah Gallo, and Sofia and Julia Steinbach; her mother-in-law, Ruth Steinbach; her aunt, Regina Middleton; her brother, Charles Murdock; her sister, Phyllis Brosz; her nephews, Lee, Kent, Ellis, David and Mark Murdock and Shawn Shelhamer; her nieces, Valerie McCarty, Eva Schaff, Kimberly Woods and Sharon Alderson; and her cousins, Gary Graham, Kay Chandler and Bard Middleton.
