Bramlett, McNamara fire 70s in regionals

By Dick Sparrer

Sean McNamara of Los Gatos and Joe Bramlett of St. Francis shared the same score on the same course, but because it wasn't the same day they finished with very different results in the Central Coast Section boys regional golf championships last week.

Both McNamara and Bramlett carded solid 1-under par 70s on the Rancho Cañada West Course. But Bramlett's 70 was good for a first-place finish on May 10, McNamara's 70 could get him only fourth a day earlier.

Serra's Alex Duvivier set the pace in the regional with a blistering round of 65 on Tuesday. Tucker Harper of Pacific Grove and Jordan Cox of Serra were each close behind at 68, following by McNamara at 70.

Bramlett, a Saratoga resident, shot a 70 a day later which was good for a first-place finish with Greg Auer of Santa Cruz and Sam Chavez of Woodside Priory close behind with 71s.

Bramlett and McNamara both played well enough to advance to the CCS finals this week, and were each poised to lead their team into action in the section championships slated for May 16 at Rancho Cañada West.

Saratoga's Carl Wheatley finished 2-over with a 73 on Tuesday to finish in a six-way tie for 10th. He effort was good enough to earn him a place as an individual qualifier in the section tourney this week.

The Falcons ended up eighth in the team poll. Michael Loi carded a 78, Shaun Pienkos an 82, Ben Stewart an 84, John Gragnola an 85 and Greg Murray a 98.
