Bramlett shoots 4 under par but settles for fourth in CCS
By Kevin Sparrer
A year ago, Joseph Bramlett of St. Francis blistered the fairways to fire a 67 at the Rancho Cañada West Golf Course in Carmel Valley to win the Central Coast Section championship.
A year later, the Saratoga resident was only two strokes off that pace, but it wasn't good enough to defend his CCS championship. In fact, it was barely good enough to get him a top five finish at the section tournament on May 16.
Bramlett finished with a 69, four strokes off the hot pace of Andrey Mindirgasov of Pacific Grove, who carded a 6-under par 65 to claim the CCS title.
Adam Ichikawa of Mountain View was close behind with a 66 and Jordan Cox of Serra shot 68. Bramlett and Brett McLeod each fired 69s to tie for fourth and Sean McNamara of Los Gatos and Chad Vivolo of Robert Louis Stevenson each finished at 70 to tie for sixth.
The marks were good enough to help all seven of the golfers advance to the next round of tourney play, the Northern California High School Championships that were to be played on May 22 at the Mira Vista Golf and Country Club in El Cerrito.
Mindirgasov, Cox and Vivolo each helped their teams--Pacific Grove, Serra and Stevenson--advance to the NorCal tourney. Serra won the team title with Stevenson second and Pacific Grove third. Ichikawa, Bramlett, McLeod and McNamara won NorCal berths as individual players.
Serra totaled 366 strokes to win the CCS team title with Stevenson second at 369, Pacific Grove third at 371, Mountain View fourth at 372, Bellarmine fifth at 381, St. Francis sixth at 383 and Los Gatos seventh at 395.
Eric Mina shot even par at 71 to lead the Bellarmine effort. Peter Singh shot 73, Garrison Rajkovich 76, Iko Tumangan 80, Steven O'Dowd 81 and Craig Foster 87.
Bramlett was the St. Francis leader at 69, followed by Chris Jensen at 71, Sean Nadir at 77, Mike Van Bronkhorst at 81 and Eric Runge at 85.
McNamara's 1-under 70 led the Los Gatos showing, with Bobby Kent at 75, Nick Schradle 80, Ross Pimental 82, Chris Walker 88 and Matt Perrone 89.
