Frances G. McDonald

Frances Geraldine McDonald, 90, formerly of Saratoga, died May 26.

McDonald was born in Oakdale to Joseph and Alfreda Vasche. She was proud to be a third-generation Californian.

McDonald lived in Saratoga from 1967 to 1999. She taught elementary school in Campbell; she was a familiar sight playing dodge ball or baseball in three-inch heels with her teacher's whistle dangling from her mouth. McDonald was active in the local chapter of the American Association of University Women. Her other interests included bridge, reading, playing the piano, speaking Spanish, sewing, watching baseball, watching movies, decorating and traveling the world; Kenya was her favorite destination. She treasured her weekly visits from the members of St. Patrick's Church, who brought her communion and friendship.

She is survived by her children, Linda Boscoe and Bruce McDonald; her son-in-law, Jim Boscoe; her grandchildren, Ashley Child of New York, Jon Child of San Francisco and Claire Campbell McDonald and Mary Kathryn McDonald of Jamestown; her sisters, Merdene Hess of Reno and Dolores Fearn of Salinas; her brothers-in-law, Lew Hess, Cecil McDonald and Robert Ballard; dozens of nieces and nephews; and countless friends, including the many people at Skyline Place. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm McDonald, and seven of her nine siblings.

At her request, there will be no funeral. Donations may be made in her name to VNA/Hospice of Tuolumne County, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.
