William H. Ebert
William Henry Ebert of Saratoga, 85, died July 6.
Ebert was born in Sutton, Neb. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Army, serving in World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He then attended the University of Nevada at Reno and earned a degree in mining engineering. He was president of his fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa.
Ebert started P and E Construction with Ernie Pestana, and later Spartan Construction with partners Paul Fiddes and Frank Barber. Finally, he started WH Ebert Construction in 1979. Ebert retired in 1993. He was a member of the Engineering and Utility Contractors Association, the Sainte Claire Club, a 32nd degree member of the Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the San Jose Scottish Rite. He was an avid hunter and rancher, and owned the Ruby Dome Ranch in Lamoille, Nev., with partners the Steve Dorsa family and the Paul Fiddes family. He was also a member of the Simple 10 Duck Club.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rachel McNeil Ebert of Saratoga; his son, James, and his wife, Sarah Ebert, of San Jose; his daughter, Catherine Ebert, and her partner, Lois Ann Porter, of Woodside; his son, Thomas, and his wife, Nancy Ebert, of Morgan Hill; his grandchildren Daniel, Robert, Christine and Shane Hill and Shannon Hill-Brewer and her husband, Matt Brewer; his great-grandchildren, Brianna Hill and Trevor and Cassidy Brewer; his sister, Wilma Partridge; and his sister, Phyllis Ebert-Sullivan, and her husband, Joe Sullivan. He was predeceased by his sister, Lois Cockshaw.
Memorial services were held on July 10. Contributions may be made in his name to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817, or to a charity of choice.
