LaNetta Waite

Private services were held July 14 for LaNetta "Lana" A. Waite, a mystery novelist and Saratoga resident who died July 5 at age 81.

Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Seattle, Waite was a school secretary at Fremont Older in Cupertino for 15 years who wrote three mystery novels in her later years: Buried in Burrywood (2002), Madd Mountain Murders (2004) and Cobwebs and Contraband (2005).

Madd Mountain Murders was a semifinalist in the 2005 Independent Publishers Awards for Mystery.

She spent her retirement years reading, traveling and writing and was described by friends as selfless and loving.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fred Waite; her children Larry, John and Linda Waite; her grandchildren Matthew, Mariah and Jordan Waite; and her great-grandchildren Steven Granier and Riley Waite.
