Group names youth citizen of the year award winners
By Michele Tjin
Five current and former Los Gatos students who have contributed significantly to their communities are being recognized as role models to other young people.
Alec Brasier, Pandora Chu, Jamie Lueder, Corinne Sliva and Marion Wellington have been named "Youth Citizen of the Year" award recipients and will be honored at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21 behind Los Gatos High School. They are being recognized for their diverse community service and will receive local, state and federal commendations for their accomplishments.
The quintet will also be honored at the Los Gatos holiday tree-lighting ceremony in December.
"I found that what makes these students special is the dedication and commitment to their community, either to their town community or school community," said Chris Miller, who is a board member of the Los Gatos Youth Park, the organization behind the youth awards.
Alec Brasier is a senior at Los Gatos High School and serves as the student representative to the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School board of trustees.
Pandora Chu graduated from Saratoga High School and is starting her first year at Princeton University. She was editor of the school yearbook, a National Merit semifinalist and a member of the Los Gatos Rowing Club.
