Etta's not just a runner,,
she'san inspiration

Congratulations to Etta Palmer ("The Long Run," Jan. 3). What the article didn't mention is how much Etta has helped and inspired others. I was non-athletic and Etta coaxed me into believing I could run a marathon. She continuously was there for me with her positive attitude, even through all of my injuries. I completed the Honolulu Marathon (26.2 miles) and several after that because of her constant encouragement and not letting me give up.

Rumsfeld should have
left a long time ago

Eleanor Traeg must be one of the few people in the entire world sorry to see Rumsfeld leave ("Praise for Rumsfeld's performance," letters, Dec. 2t). This man was one of the chief architects of our country's stupidest adventure, the invasion and subsequent destruction of Iraq. For the first time in history, the United States unilaterally and pre-emptively attacked a sovereign country that did not threaten our national security. In doing so we have essentially lost the goodwill of the entire world. Rumsfeld and some others lost the goodwill of the entire world. Rumsfeld and some others should have been eased out long ago so we can start recovering from this unbelievable fiasco.
