Local women walking the runway in fashion show to benefit Village

By Shannon Burkey

Saratoga may not be Paris or Milan, but residents have a style all their own. To showcase that style, the Saratoga Village Development Council's second annual Village Fashion Show will take place on Feb. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Foothill Club in Saratoga.

"The fashion show is our biggest money-making event of the year and 100 percent of the proceeds go to making the Village better," said Jill Hunter, chairwoman of the SVDC.

Last year's sold-out event netted $5,000 and the proceeds went toward the purchase of 50 banners that read, "Historic Saratoga Village." The banners were placed on light posts throughout the Village as a way to bring attention to the history of the area.

Event coordinators hope this year's show will be even more successful.

"We're hoping to make $10,000 this year," Hunter said. "There are some really nice things we plan on doing for the Village with the money."

The SVDC plans to purchase plaques for all of the historic buildings in the Village that explain the building's historic relevance. The council also plans to put together a tri-fold pamphlet listing Village shops and services, in an effort to familiarize people with all the Village has to offer. With the additional money, the SVDC would like to supply music and entertainment at various Village events, such as the Witchy-Walk-About and the St. Patrick's Day party.

"We are trying to promote Saratoga as a historic Village and teach Saratogans and everyone else about it," Hunter said.

Flobell Fashion Boutique is jointly sponsoring the show and local women will model the clothes.

Along with the fashion show, a silent auction will be held. Nearly every shop in the Village has donated items for the auction, including a chaise longue from Indo, a class on how to make truffles from Saratoga Chocolates and a $350 gift certificate from Audio Arts.

Food and wine will be included in the ticket price and every restaurant in the Village has donated food. Cinnabar Vineyards and Winery, Conrado Cellars and Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards will donate wine.

The fashion show will not be the only entertainment of the evening. Professional tango dancers will perform and Saratoga resident Christine Van Hoy will sing.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased in Saratoga at Flobell Fashion Boutique, The Butter Paddle, Fat Robin/La Mesa Linens and Benson Antiques or by emailing Hunter at Jhunter95070@yahoo.com.
