Heroes and pirates and fairies, oh my! At the fourth annual Witchy Walk-A-Bout on Oct. 27, those costumes and an array of others strutted down Big Basin Way in what was a fun-filled afternoon for both parents and children.
But those weren't the only ones having a good time.
"A lot of dogs were dressed up, too," said Kristin Davis, event coordinator. "Mine was dressed as a pirate."
Village merchants served tricks and treats to both humans and canines. In front of The Butter Paddle, visitors posed for pictures with an animated Count Dracula, and a mini-carnival in the Bank of America parking lot included an old-fashioned favorite, a pumpkin walk.
"The whole atmosphere of it was a big hit. It was a good spirit around town," she said.
All in all, 600 balloons were blown up indicating a crowd of more than 500 attended the event this year, more than the number last year.
Davis, who has been a part of every Witchy Walk-A-Bout, said this year was a great success considering the kind of effort given into the event.
"Since we're all volunteers, we can only do so much. It takes everyone helping to make it work, and I'm grateful for that," she said.
