Psychic's comments about Vorreiter were outrageous

I am outraged by the comments made by Tony Adams regarding City Council member Pat Vorreiter in your Dec. 30 article "The Future Is Good."

There is not a kinder, more caring, more involved member of our City Council. I spent New Year's Eve with her giving toys to a needy family. No fanfare, no recognition. She is always volunteering her time to whatever arises.

Tony Adams must not have ever met Pat Vorreiter. As a mother, wife, grandmother, attorney at law, Sunnyvale resident, City Council member, community volunteer and my friend, she is a very warm and loving woman.

Mr. Adams, you must not get out much or you would see Pat Vorreiter out here with us doing whatever we can to make our community the best it can be.

Predictions were free

Regarding Justin Berton's Dec. 30 article "The Future Is Good," did the paper pay for those predictions?

The paper offered to pay for Tony Adams' reading, but the psychic refused and performed his services for free. --Editor

It isn't too hard or painful to become a blood donor

With 1998 ending and 1999 beginning, many people will make resolutions for the new year. As a blood platelet donor, I would like to encourage people to include becoming a blood donor as one of their resolutions.

West Valley residents have always been very caring people, and I can't think of any better form of volunteerism than being a blood donor. Nothing is more rewarding than to give something that helps save lives--blood.

Time-wise, giving blood doesn't take that much time, and since you are limited by law as to how many times you can donate, you still have ample time to pursue other activities, even if you donated the maximum allowable times per year.

Don't like needles? Think of what the person who receives your blood is going through and you will realize that you as the donor have the easy end of the bargain. A recipient like an organ transplant patient or accident victim is enduring far more pain than you are enduring in donating.

If you are already a blood donor and want to be really bold, consider becoming a platelet donor like I have done. Regardless of whether you choose to become a whole blood or platelet donor, you will be doing something that is deeply appreciated by recipients and their families.
