The new appointees are: Gerald Gras, bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee; Ted Faravelli, board of building code appeals; Brian Queen, heritage preservation commission; and Marian Putzig, housing and human services commission.

All four will serve as advisors to the Sunnyvale City Council on policy issues through their respective boards or commissions. Their terms began on Dec. 20, 2000, and will expire on June 30, 2002, except for Faravelli, whose term expires in 2004.

Million dollar grant approved for transportation

The Bay Area Air Quality Management district approved Sunnyvale's application for a $1 million grant from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air. The grant funds will pay for the majority of the cost of converting 20

new garbage, yard waste and recycling collection trucks to use clean air fuels instead of diesel. The trucks, to be purchased by Bay Counties Waste Services, are scheduled replacements of an equivalent number of trucks that will reach the end of their useful lives between 2001 and 2003. Total estimated cost of converting the 20 vehicles to clean air fuel is $1,722,957.

Construction begins on Heritage Park exhibit

The first few weeks of construction saw the pouring of concrete footings and the grading of the amphitheater seating area. The entire project, including landscaping, is scheduled to be completed by the first part of March 2001.
