Walters, Gonzales score for Fremont
Jodie Walters and Cari Gonzales knocked in two goals apiece and Dawnell Larsen had a goal and two assists to lead the Fremont girls' soccer team to a solid 5-2 win over Lynbrook. Amy Andrzejewski also had two assists for the Indians and Shannon Ryan added one.
Fremont evened its record at 1-1 in the El Camino division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League with the win. The Indians are 3-6 for the year.
Lady Dons fall
Kristie Barnes fired in 13 points, but the De Anza Community College women's basketball team lost a 69-65 decision to Sacramento City College in the De Anza Classic in Cupertino.
Iisha Coleman, Kay Jackson and Aisha Sullivan tossed in 10 points each for the Dons in the loss and Kerri Reese added nine. Jackson popped two three-pointers and Barnes and Reese had one each.
Kam Simpson supported with five points, Jenny Miller and Donalyn Marchi had three apiece and Selena Miller hit two.
The Dons, now 9-9 for the year, will host Hartnell in conference play on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
Sunnyvale stars
Yan Karklin and Andi Finlay of Sunnyvale were star athletes this past fall at Menlo School, a private high school in Atherton.
Karklin, a senior, was the team captain for the league championship boys' cross-country team. Menlo finished first in the Private School Athletic League.
Finlay, a sophomore, was a Central Coast Section champ in the 100 backstroke for the girls' swimming team. Finlay was a team captain for the squad that finished second in the Girls' Private School League with a 6-1 record.
