Firebirds place

Mark Sabran and Jamie Kashitani each placed to lead the Fremont effort at the annual Gary Bianchini Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Cupertino last weekend.

Sabran was third at 145 pounds for the Firebirds, and Kashitani came through with a fourth at 140.

Sabran was one of just four Fremont winners earlier in the week in a 50-15 dual-match loss to Monta Vista. Sabran pulled out a tight 32-0 victory at 145.

Baseball sign-ups

It's time for the youngsters of Sunnyvale and their parents to start thinking about the upcoming youth baseball season. Sign-ups are coming up soon in local leagues:

Sunnyvale Metro Little League--Sign-ups are set for Jan. 13, 7-9 p.m., at Ponderosa Park, 811 Henderson Ave. For more information, call Jerry Feldman at 247-2227.

Sunnvale National Little League--Sign-ups for players up to age 15 will be held on Jan. 14, 6-8 p.m., at the Washington Park Rec Center. For more information, call Robert Rodrigues at 732-5021.

Sunnyvale Serra Little League--Sign-ups for players up to age 15 will be held on Jan. 15, 6-9 p.m., at the Serra Park Rec Building, 730 The Dalles. For more information, call 345-9800.

Sunnyvale Southern Little League--Sign-ups for players up to age 15 will be held Saturdays, through Jan. 24, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. each day, and Jan. 13, 7-9 p.m., at the Las Palmas Park Rec Building, Russett and Erie Drive. For more information, call Andy Gonzales at 773-1615 or Walter Lee at 739-6065.

Southern/Serra Juniors--The Sunnyvale Southern and Serra junior divisions (age 13) will play in combine this season.

Softball sign-ups

Sunnyvale girls can sign-up for the 1998 softball season through programs in the Metro, Southern and Serra Little Leagues.

Metro Little League--Sign-ups are set for Jan. 13, 7-9 p.m., at Ponderosa Park, 811 Henderson Ave. Sign-ups for girls ages 7-15. For more information, call 243-5437.

Southern Little Leagues--Sign-ups for players ages 7-15 will be held Saturdays through Jan. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each day, at the Las Palmas Park Rec Building, Russett and Erie Drive. Players will play in combination with the Serra Little League. For more information, call Bob Kinder at 736-9014 or Walter Lee at 739-6065.
