    Symphony's All-Instrument Youth Concerto Competition

    The Nova Vista Symphony Association will sponsor the 14th Concerto Competition for Youth on March 9 and 10. Youth ages 22 and under who play any instrument are invited to enter. The winner will receive a first prize of $300 and will perform as featured soloist at the orchestra's May 11 concert. Prizes of $200 and $100 will be awarded for second and third place.

    Applicants should select and prepare a full-length work for solo with orchestra, which will be performed before a panel of judges. Also, applicants should provide one copy of the composition for the judges. Auditions will be held at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills and each applicant will perform for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

    Application forms must be postmarked on or before Feb. 15 and can be obtained by calling the Nova Vista Symphony at 408.245.3116. Requests may also be sent to the Nova Vista Symphony Association at P.O. Box 60312, Sunnyvale, CA 94088.

    Carrett at Rooster T's

    The comedian Lord Carrett will headline at Rooster T. Feathers Jan. 23 through 26. He has appeared on Showtime, Comedy Central and TLC, and was interviewed on NPR about writing the Austin Powers CD-ROM game "Operation Trivia."

    Shows are at 8 p.m. on Jan 23 and 24 and 8 and 10:30 p.m. on Jan 25 and 26. Tickets are $12 and attendees must be 21 or older with a valid ID. For tickets or more information, call 408.736.0921.
