Jaguars top Dons

The San Jose City College women's basketball team improved to 21-1 for the year and to 4-0 in the Coast Conference with a lopsided 74-55 win over De Anza Community College last Friday night.

The Jaguars, currently No. 2 in the state rankings, were led by Arbatisha Kitchen, who pumped in 19 points, and Cortney Keegan (St. Francis), who tossed in 18.

Kerri Dunn (Presentation) and Bernadette Suffle popped 15 points each and Jane Riley (Westmont) had 10 in the loss for the Dons.

The Lady Dons, who entered the week ranked No. 9 in the state, slipped to 2-2 in the conference and 17-7 for the year with the loss to San Jose and a 67-60 loss to Foothill.

Dunn fired in 20 points to lead all De Anza scorers in the loss to the Owls. Suffle and Riley supported with 17 points apiece.

The same night, the Jaguars whipped Hartnell 90-52 behind a 20-point effort by Kitchen. Keegan fired in 17 points for the winners, and Tami Monson (Mitty) had 11.

Dons open with win

David Newberg (Westmont) buried 11 points and Scott Mollins added 10 to lead the De Anza Community College men's basketball team to a tight 54-52 win over Foothill in the Coast Conference opener for each school.

The win helped the Dons improve to 9-13 for the year.

Earlier in the week, De Anza had turned back Lemoore 95-58 in a non-conference game.

It's beginning to look a lot like...baseball!

Area youngsters are invited to participate in spring training!

No, not with the Giants and A's in Arizona--but rather, a little closer to home.

Willow Glen varsity baseball coach Gary Rose will host a Little League Spring Training Day on Feb. 14 on the high school baseball field.

The training day is open to youngsters ages 8-12, and it will be broken into two three-hour sessions of drills and instruction, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Each session is limited to the first 100 players to sign up.

The cost is a $10 donation to the Willow Glen High School baseball program, and players should sign up in the front office at the high school by Feb. 10. For more information, call Rose at 535-6330.
