Firebirds play at home and away

The Fremont boys' and girls' basketball teams will be at home and away for league games this week in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

The Fremont girls host Cupertino on Jan. 21, 7 p.m., before visiting Mountain View on Jan. 23, 7 p.m., for a pair of El Camino games. The boys, meanwhile, visit Wilcox on Jan. 22, 7 p.m., before hosting Homestead on Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m.

The Mustangs open the week at home against Mountain View on Jan. 22, 7 p.m., before traveling to Fremont on Friday. Homestead lost 78-58 to Wilcox last week to slip to 1-2 in the division and to 3-10 for the year.

The Homestead girls will be busy in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL, hosting Los Gatos on Jan. 21, 7 p.m., and visiting St. Francis on Jan. 23, 7 p.m.

District 44 sign-ups

Sign-ups will be held in January for youngsters interested in participating in the programs offered by the District 44 Little League in this area.

Local leagues holding sign-ups include:

Sunnyvale National Little League-- Signups for players ages 5-18 will be held Jan. 22, 6-8 p.m., at Washington Park. For more information, call Robert Rodrigues, 732-5021.

Sunnyvale Southern Little League-- Sign-ups will be held Jan. 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Las Palmas Park Rec Building, 858 Russett Drive. For more information, call Walter and Sheri Lee, 739-6065.
