    Lakewood Youth Baseball to hold signups for 2000

    Lakewood Youth Baseball, a Pony program now in its 42nd year of competition, will hold signups for players ages 5-12 on Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Lakewood Park Building.

    Everyone who signs up will play, and all players receive a participation trophy at the end of the season.

    Teams begin forming Feb. 19, and the league is also looking for coaches and sponsors.

    Little League signups

    Local leagues in Little League District 44 have announced early registration for the 2000 spring season. Players must live within league boundaries and must present a birth certificate and proof of residency to enroll.

    Sunnyvale National-- Signups for players ages 5-16 will be held every Saturday (9 a.m.-2 p.m.) and Wednesday (6-8 p.m.) in January in the Fair Oaks Park Rec Building at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale. For more information, call the Sunnyvale National hotline at 408.720.1809.

    Sunnyvale Southern-- Baseball and softball signups to age 16, Saturdays, through Jan. 29, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at DeAnza Park Rec Building, off Ticonderoga, just west of Mary Avenue in Sunnyvale. For information, call Bob Kinder at 408.738.1992 (or contact www.ssll.org).

    Challenger Division--Signups for physically and mentally disabled youngsters, ages 7-17, may be made at any District 44 league during signup dates listed. Registration is free. Play is from March to June. For more information, call Ken or Anneliese Jones at 408.615.8807.
