    Public Safety

    The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department.

    Grand Theft--Dec. 15, 3:00 p.m., 900 block Almanor Avenue. An employee of SGI noticed that a HP Printer had been stolen. SGI security was notified and a report was made. SGI security has a video of a suspect entering the business with a large duffel bag. The suspect appeared to be ducking and peeking around cubicles. He left quickly with the duffel bag which appeared to be carrying a heavy object. The printer was worth $480.

    Counterfeit Checks--Dec. 19, 12:00 p.m., 1200 block Oakmead Parkway. Credit union near above address accepted a check that was later returned as "do not deposit." The person who had deposited the check then used ATM's and debit cards to withdraw $12,658.27 from the account.

    Battery--Dec. 23, 5:20 p.m., 800 block West Evelyn Avenue. Officers were called to the home of a couple who had been in an argument that had turned physical. The female suspect struck the male victim with a telephone. She also hit and bit him. The victim suffered a fractured tooth root.

    Auto Burglary--Dec. 29, 7:00 p.m., 1200 block Lawrence Station Road. An unknown suspect cut the alarm wire connected to the engine, entered the car by pulling the driver's side window away from the frame, and removed the CD player and stereo equalizer.

    Auto Burglary--Dec. 29, 5:35 a.m., 800 Dartshire Way. The victim heard the alarm on his vehicle which was parked on the street. He went outside to see what had caused the alarm to trip and saw two figures drive away in an 1980's brown Chevy Camaro. The unknown suspects had entered the victim's car via a smashed window. They stole a stereo equalizer worth $500.

    Burglary--Jan. 1, 6:40 p.m., 1600 block Martin Avenue. An officer responded to a report of a residential burglary. An unknown suspect had entered into residence at the above address through the rear bedroom window. The suspect used force to open it and then ransacked the home and took cash, currency, coin sets, and jewelry. The victim said that all doors and windows had been locked. No one else had permission to be inside the home.

    Theft--Jan. 6, 1:18 p.m., 300 block South Sunnyvale Avenue. An officer responded to JCPenny's to pick up a shoplifting suspect. The suspect had entered the store and tried on two jackets. He walked by several cash registers without paying for the jackets. The suspect exited the store still wearing the merchandise. He was confronted outside the door by store security. He was escorted back inside and arrested.

    Possession of Stolen Property--Jan. 11, Unknown address. In August, the suspect removed a stereo system from the loading dock of a department store in Vallco. On Jan 1, the suspect sold the system to an out-of-state customer via the Internet. He was arrested in possession of stolen property while preparing to ship it at a UPS office.

    Battery--Jan. 15, 12:10 a.m., 500 block Columbia Avenue. He should have slept it off. An officer responded to above address on a report of a family disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer was met by an intoxicated man. Other family members wanted the man to leave or go to sleep. The officer advised man of his options. The man said he would sleep it off on the couch. After officer left, he looked through a window and saw the suspect push the victim in the arm. The officer re-entered the home and arrested the suspect.

    Resisting Arrest--Jan. 15, 2:57 a.m., 700 block San Justo Court. Officer responded to report of a man arguing with his sister. The suspect was causing a disturbance at his apartment complex, yelling loudly while standing on the stairs outside his apartment. He was extremely intoxicated and uncooperative. After pushing officers and yelling at them, he was detained. He resisted being handcuffed. Once handcuffed, he kicked officers.

    Battery--Jan. 16, 1:49 a.m., 600 block South Bernardo Avenue. An officer responded to a report of a disturbance near above address. The victim said he was struck in head several times by three suspects. He placed the suspects under citizen's arrest. Officer took three men into custody, then cited and released them.
