Senior center offers tax-filing assistance
For the 11th straight year, the Sunnyvale Senior Center will provide free tax-filing assistance for people with low or moderate incomes who are more than 60 years old. The service will be offered Feb. 3-April 14. According to recreation specialist Martha Lobo, the center, with help from trained tax-aide volunteers from the American Association of Retired Persons, assisted more than 400 people last year. Volunteers answer quick questions and help prepare tax forms.
The center is located at 820 W. McKinley Ave. Call 730-7360 to make an appointment.
Urban forest group launches Web site
An offshoot of the Friends of the Sunnyvale Community Forest has just sprung up on the Web.
The group launched a Web site this month dedicated to Sunnyvale trees. The site enables residents to track trees in Sunnyvale as they grow. The site presents 44 trees, with a photo of each tree and its leaves, its location and other relevant data such as age, height and notes of interest. Users can access individual trees by common or botanical name. They can also browse through the list tree by tree, taking a virtual tree tour.
