Merchants brace for downtown construction

Lockheed to sell portion of campus

    The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department

    Burglary--Jan. 16, 4:24 p.m., 200 West Iowa Avenue. A man tried to purchase stereo equipment with a credit card. It came back expired. The man then gave the clerk another card. The clerk asked for identification. The suspect had none and left the store without merchandise. The suspect was confronted by a security officer. He then punched the officer in the face and fled, running. Store security followed him to another store where he attempted to purchase more electronics. As the transaction was being rung up, store manager was warned that cards were stolen. The manager asked for ID. The suspect left the store and was apprehended.

    Possession of Marijuana--Jan. 19, 1:44 am., 400 block East El Camino Real. An officer on routine patrol observed a car parked in the corner of an otherwise empty parking lot. After approaching the car, the officer saw the leg-end of a sleeping bag pointing over the seats. The officer observed a male suspect sleeping in the back seat. Upon a consent search of the vehicle, the officer found a clear, zip-lock bag with a green, leafy substance inside the suspect's jacket. Along with the bag, the officer also found a black film canister also containing what looked like marijuana.

    Possession of Stolen Vehicle--Jan. 19, 10:00 p.m., 10800 block of Evelyn Avenue. An officer on patrol stopped a car for expired registration. Via dispatch, the officer found the vehicle had been reported stolen from San Jose. The driver was arrested and booked in Santa Clara County jail without incident.
