Students benefit from Cisco donation to lab

De Anza College recently partnered with Cisco Systems, Inc. of San Jose to provide up-to-the-minute technology to students.

Cisco donated 20 routers to De Anza's Computer Information Systems Department, laying the foundation for a new student computer lab to supplement Internet networking classes. The routers enable computers to communicate with other computers anywhere in the world.

Computer information systems instructor Behrouz Forouzan, spent hundreds of hours coordinating the three-month effort with Cisco senior engineer Yvonne Liu, who together with Forouzan, developed all the class material for the lab. The lab opened in January.

"The students can benefit from this lab because they can have hands-on experience on what we've taught them in theoretical networking courses," said Forouzan, who is teaching the class that uses the lab. "The hands-on experience is needed if a student wants to find a job in the industry."
