Albertson's on El Camino reopens doors to the public
By Jana Seshadri
"Alby," a huge grocery bag filled and overflowing with groceries and fresh produce, lent a hand at the grand re-opening of Albertson's at the intersection of Remington Drive and El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. The newly renovated store reopened its doors at 8 a.m. on Jan. 30 after a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"We have been in partnership with the city of Sunnyvale for more than 29 years and this time we've raised the bar," Albertson's District Manager Charles Lightfoot said.
The store's renovation includes a full-service bakery, meat section, deli and florist, besides the complete range of groceries, dairy and produce. In addition, coffee lovers can order a drink that strikes their fancy at the Starbucks counter inside the store.
The renovation, which took more than a year to complete, expanded several departments and added services that didn't exist before, Store Director Robert Esquivel said. For instance, customers can now order a custom-made bouquet of fresh flowers, or have their meat sliced up at the deli counter.
Esquivel said that the branch of the store has 67 employees.
Last month another Albertson's store, at the intersection of Mary and Fremont avenues, closed its doors. Esquivel said the new store has absorbed five employees from the store that closed.
"We are here to serve the community," Lightfoot said as he handed over a check for $1,000 to Leann Block, school secretary for Stevens Creek Elementary School.
