    Athletes Honored

    Former Stanford University and San Jose State football coach John Ralston was on hand to pass out the awards when the Palo Club of Palo Alto honored local scholar athletes at a banquet Jan. 28 at the Palo Alto Elks Club.

    Athletes from 20 mid-peninsula high schools were recognized, including: Scott Mueller and Ben Reynolds of Cupertino; Esteban Carbajal of Fremont; Garren Strong of Homestead; Sean Imai and Paul Niedamyer of Lynbrook; and Ryan Katz and Drew Rogers of Monta Vista.

    Ralston, also a former NFL coach for the Denver Broncos, is a Palo Club member.

    Lacrosse Camp

    Stanford coach Joe Christie will host a lacrosse camp April 8-11 for beginner to intermediate players ages 8-14.

    Christie, a teacher at Redwood Middle School, will team with Redwood teacher and athletic director Brian Senior to put on the camp in Saratoga.

    Volleyball Sign-ups

    The U.S. Volleyball League is holding registration through March 15 for the 2002 spring season which will run from April 9 through June 8 at Camden Park in San Jose.

    The league is open to players ages 8-14, and the fee is $95 per player. The cost includes instruction, games, a uniform T-shirt and equipment.
