Councilmember plans to run for State Assembly

Sunnyvale City Councilmember and former mayor Stan Kawzcynski is running for State Assembly.

Kawzcynski, a Republican, is running for the 22nd Assembly District seat, which is currently held by Elaine White Alquist (D-Santa Clara).

Alquist announced two weeks ago that she is running for re-election.

Kawzcynski said he filed an Intent to Run statement Feb. 5 and will be releasing a formal announcement of his candidacy sometime this week.

"I want to keep this an issue-orientated campaign and keep the smut out," he said.

Humane society cuts prices

The Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley will spay and neuter dogs, cats, and rabbits for 50 percent off the regular price to celebrate national Spay/Neuter month, February.

The Humane Society will make appointments Tuesday through Friday during the month. Call 727-3383 ext. 762 for more information.

Artist competition seeks local talent

Actors, artists, poets, photographers, dancers, and musicians are invited to compete in the Olympiad of the Arts Competition, sponsored by West Valley/Mission Colleges Foundation.
