Council expands community outreach
A new city of Sunnyvale outreach effort will make it easier for residents and community groups to share their views with elected officials in the city. Upon request, council members will attend meetings of neighborhood associations and other community groups to learn more about resident opinions on city and neighborhood issues.
The council unanimously approved the outreach effort, which was proposed by Councilman John Howe at the Jan. 8 meeting. The goal of the outreach effort is to expand citizen input on city governance and enable council members to be better informed of resident and neighborhood concerns.
For more information about the outreach effort, or to invite council members to attend your organization's meeting, contact Lorna Dejillo with neighborhood and community services at 408.730.7489 or email ldejillo@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us.
Downtown parking program begins
Visitors to downtown Sunnyvale will have access to new downtown parking ambassadors, who will answer questions and direct drivers to convenient parking.
Seventy-five parking spaces formerly reserved for valet parking will become available in the downtown area effective Feb. 6, bringing an end to the complimentary valet parking program.
Downtown Sunnyvale is the site of several major construction projects and the developer of three downtown office buildings will sponsor the ambassadors, who will be placed at key
intersections and walk through downtown during busy times to help visitors and shoppers in the downtown area. The first assignment of the ambassadors will be to help direct traffic and parking around a large crane that will temporarily close some streets in the Town & Country Village area starting Feb. 11 and continue for a few months.
