    Soccer signups


    The Sunnyvale AYSO will hold soccer signups for players ages 4 1/2-18 (as of Aug. 1, 1999) on Feb. 23, 6-9 p.m., at Ponderosa Park, and March 3, 6-9 p.m., at Ortega Park.

    The registration fee is $30, and players must provide a copy of their birth certificate, the addresses of a friend and their doctor, a picture (head shot) or last fall's players pass.

    Practice begins in mid March with the season to get under way the end of the first week of June.

    Wedemeyer Gala

    The first annual Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration Gala, honoring outstanding Bay Area high school seniors, will be held May 20, 6 p.m., in the Imperial Ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel.

    Special guests for the evening event include Peggy Fleming, Jan Hutchins, Michael Nouri and John Ralston.

    Scholarships of $1,000 each will be presented to college-bound athletes who have overcome adversity or challenge and who have demonstrated a positive attitude in helping others.

    Track clinic

    A track and field rules and officials clinic will be held Feb. 27, 9 a.m., at Los Gatos High School. Call 241-6578.
