Lawsuit filed against Sunnyvale auto repair shop
The Santa Clara County District Attorney has charged Joseph Galas and Galas Management Inc., the owners of Cartex One Stop Auto on Mathilda Avenue, with lying to customers about the condition of their cars to get them to agree to work and about what work had been done. The suit also alleges the defendants charged for work that had not been performed, performed sub-par work, performed repairs without proper authorization, and created and maintained misleading records.
The lawsuit is the result of an investigation by the state Bureau of Automotive Repair. It seeks an injunction to prevent future violations, levies civil penalties up to $2,500 per violation for past violations, as well as restitution and costs. A trial date has not be set.
HHS principal goes to Cupertino
Homestead High School Principal Eric Paulson will leave Homestead to take the same position at Cupertino High School. The intra-district move will take effect July 1. The Sunnyvale native's replacement has yet to be determined. Principal of Homestead since March 1998, Paulson will become only the fourth principal in that school's 40-year history. Paulson is a graduate of the now-defunct Sunnyvale
High School. He holds bachelor's and master degrees from Santa Clara University.
Poll workers needed
The Registrar of Voters Office needs more than 2,500 poll workers to work at 1,100 polling places during the March 7 primary election.
There is a critical need for workers in Sunnyvale, in addition to many other Santa Clara County cities.
Election clerks will be paid $85 and inspectors $115 to work on election day. No experience is required. Training will be provided in various locations on different days. Bilingual Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese workers also are sought.
Poll workers must be 18 or older (or 16 and over with a grade point average over 2.5 and school approval), a resident of Santa Clara County and a U.S. citizen.
Interested parties should call the Registrar of Voters at 408.299.2694.
