The city is wasting taxpayers' dollars in fighting lawsuit

In response to Mr. Robert Thoen's letter in the February 11 edition of The Sun, I would like to suggest that Mr. Thoen please put the March 23 Superior Court trial date on his calendar and be in attendance to see and hear firsthand the facts emerge in the San Jose Mercury News' allegations against the city of Sunnyvale.

I, for one, am upset that our City Council has spent $400,000 of taxpayers' dollars trying to prevent this lawsuit from ever going to trial. What are our city officials trying to hide? From filed court documents that I have just reviewed, the city even petitioned the Sixth Appellate Court last June asking them to prevent the Mercury News from conducting any discovery! Again, what are they trying to hide?

Perhaps Mr. Thoen has the answer. If so, I wish that he would enlighten me. If not, perhaps he should do some research. All he needs to do is visit the Department of Court Records and request to see the files. (The last time I looked there were five volumes on Case No. CV754230.)

Does anyone care which way the wind blows?

Mr. Orta's letter in your Feb. 18 edition corrected his error a week earlier about which way the wind blows at Moffett. I certainly am relieved greatly to read his correction.

I'd like to debate with Mr. Orta about which way the wind blows, but I don't think anyone else really gives a fig. I do know the wind blows up and away on garbage pickup day so that my garbage can lid may perform its cunning stunts in midair. But again, I don't think anyone else gives a fig.
