Water District changes treating
On March 5, 2001, the Santa Clara Valley Water District will temporarily change the method uses to treat the water it supplies to the California Water Service Company's Los Altos District. For approximately two weeks, SCVWD will switch to free chlorine disinfection as part of its annual water distribution system maintenance. Customers might notice a smell or taste of chlorine in the water, but this can be reduced by refrigerating the water overnight. Cal Water's Los Altos District provides water to 57,000 customers in Los Altos, parts of Cupertino, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Customers who have questions may call 650.917.0152.
Bennett, Houde to be honored
The Association of California Community College Administrators will honor Kelly Bennett and Michelle Houde, the two young women who prevented an alleged bomb attack at De Anza College, with its first ever "Award for Uncommon Courage." The group will present the award at its annual awards banquet on Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame.
FUHSD seniors named as National Merit Finalists
55 seniors from the five Fremont Union High School District
schools have been named National Merit Finalists. The selection of some 7,900 Merit Scholarship winners from a pool of around 14,000 Finalists nationwide is currently underway.
Free SAT I Testing
Insight College Prep Centers invites high school students to participate in free diagnostic SAT I testing, to prepare for college admissions. Interested students should call to schedule a testing date. Barbershop 'N Broadway
The Flint Center will host two award-winning barbershop choruses, the Garden City Chorus and the Bay Area Showcase, for a performance on March 3, at 2 and 8 p.m. In addition to the 140 harmonizers, several quartets will perform.
