The campaign funds raised and spent by City Council candidates during the final reporting period of 1995 varied wildly, from a rock-bottom zero to a zenith of $12,710, records show.
Dallas Lawrence, who lost his bid for seat 4 to Jack Walker, reported receiving no cash or in-kind contributions between Oct. 22 and Dec. 31, according to a campaign disclosure statement filed with the city clerk.
Lawrence raised a total of $1,115 and spent $965 during his campaign. Opponent Walker collected $1,050 during the latest filing period, $6,495 to date, and spent a total of $1,767.42 on his campaign.
At the other end of the register, incumbent Frances Rowe reported contributions of $12,709.60 for the period and $70,169.05 to date. Despite spending $28,956 on her campaign, Rowe lost her bid for re-election to Patricia Vorreiter.
Vorreiter reported raising $12,288 during the latest filing period and $27,831 to date. She reported spending $23,617 on her campaign for seat 6.
Rowe donated $902.64 in excess funds to Our Daily Bread.
In other races, incumbent Stan Kawczynski appears to have kept his pledge to accept contributions exclusively from registered Sunnyvale voters. All of the contributors listed on his latest campaign disclosure statement have local addresses.
Kawczynski, who beat challenger Vicki Piazza in the contest for seat 7, reported receiving $984 in contributions during the latest filing period and $5,478 overall. He spent $5,541.47 on the race.
Piazza collected $620 in contributions during the latest period and $3,633.02 overall. She reported spending $3,551.50 on her campaign.
Manny Valerio, who ran unopposed for seat 5, reported contributions of $275 during the latest filing period and $7,380 overall. He reported spending $5,964 on his campaign.
Councilmembers Jim Roberts and Landon Noll and Mayor Robin Parker also filed disclosure statements for the six-month period that ended Dec. 31. None collected any contributions during that period. Their existing war chests add up as follows:
* Roberts reported an ending cash balance of $85.90 and outstanding debt of $23,000.
* Noll reported an ending cash balance of zero and outstanding debt of $18,892.08.
* Parker reported an ending cash balance of $763.52 and no outstanding debt.
