    Volunteers needed

    The city of Sunnyvale's 15th annual Hands on the Arts Festival needs volunteers. The event takes place on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center at 550 E. Remington Drive. Organizers are looking for dependable folk with good communication skills to donate time. Volunteers will be assigned to a professional artist's booth and will assist children with their take-home art projects. Interested parties should call Patrick Larkin at 408.730.7724 for details.

    Book smart city

    According to the March issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine, Sunnyvale is among the cities with the highest percentage of residents with four-year college degrees. Reportedly, 28.3 percent of Sunnyvale folks have a degree, making it the eigth nerdiest place in the country. Plano, Texas, heads the list with 37 percent of its populace holding degrees.

    City officer moves on

    Dyane Matas, Sunnyvale's Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Officer, moves this week to Fremont. She will take on the position of Redevelopment Director. City spokesman Dan Rich said Matas' responsibilities will be divvied up until a replacement can be found.

    Get back to nature

    The Northern California Society of American Foresters is hosting their ninth annual Forest Conservation Days on March 25 and 26. Volunteers will host nature walks at Sanborn County Park in Saratoga. A $4 vehicle entrance fee applies.
