Group will rate quality of life

City Council chose eight community representatives to serve on a task force that will evaluate the overall quality of life in Sunnyvale.

The city established the task force to draw from a wider range of people determining what it's like to live in Sunnyvale. Councilmember Jim Roberts said that the members were chosen to reflect the community as a whole, citing a range of business, gender, and interest perspectives.

According to Roberts, the task force will meet four to six times before June, when members will make a recommendation to the council that will be incorporated into the city's Quality of Life/Municipal Performance Index.

    Teen services suggestions

Sunnyvale Teen Services presented options on expanding its offerings at a City Councils study session last week. The proposal included four program suggestions and two special projects--construction of a skateboard facility and an indoor climbing wall.

Possible programs include creating a resource guide for teens and their families, offering middle-school after-school programs and continuing the Saturday night teen programs. Teen Services also suggested securing funding that will allow for appropriate programming as teens interests and needs shift.

City seeks volunteers for advisory boards

The city is looking to fill 15 vacancies on eight different advisory boards and commissions which report to City Council on policy issues.

Vacancies are sought for the following: Arts Commission, Board of Building Code Appeals, Board of Library Trustees, Heritage Preservation Commission, Housing and Human Services, Parks and Recreation, Personnel Board and the Planning Commission.

Call (408) 730-7533 for applications and information.
